SIDE A = Midnight Bop SIDE B = I Take My Hat Off To The Blues
Migraine Records / Migraine Bop 023
The True Blue Trio is a band with a line-up of people from different other great bands, such as Pike Cavalero, singer and rhythm guitar also in the band of the same name; Little Boy Arnold, electric guitar in Charlie Haightone And The Rock-It's and leader of the Blues band Little Boy Arnold And The Jelly Roll Bakers; and Pepe Lee, slap-bass with the Sun Rockets as well.
After that presentation we see that this is a trio without drums... so the original idea of a line-up for a Rockabilly band. And that's what there is on both sides of this limited edition 7": good, old Rockabilly. Great!
Side A is for "Midnight Bop", a song written by Pike Cavalero. Straight Rockabilly as said before, with the acoustic guitar and the slap-bass providing the rhythm while the electric guitar and the voice take the spotlight. You're gonna dance with this one for sure!
A cover of Billy Jack Hale's "I Take My Hat Off To The Blues" has been selected for the B side: an obscure old Rockabilly, but of undeniable quality. By the way, Billy Jack Hale recorded two different versions of this song: a fast one and a slow one. The True Blue Trio has gone for the fast option, getting an excelent B side that will keep you dancing.
Good record from the True Blue Trio, released by Migraine Records. It's for records like this one that Rockabilly is still so alive all these years after its heyday.
