A lot of years have gone by since the album "Dirty Night Blues" released by these gentlemen from the South of Spain that, if my memory serves me well, was their previous record. Maybe for that reason, in this "Point Of No Return" we find songs recorded from back to January 2012 to May 2016. Anyway, that time gap does not subtract unity from the whole of this record.

In "Point Of No Return" The Sun Rockets keep on playing at ease in the Rockin' Blues field, I mean there where Blues meets Rock'n'Roll and we get great tunes such as those included in this record. "Drinking With The Devil" is a good example of that Rockin' Blues style. More than that, this threesome from Almeria, Spain, is able to walk into rhythms close to Country or Rockabilly, such as "Western Moon", an instro that sounds as Western as it gets, or "Cat Eyes", with the double-bass slapping as if there was no tomorrow. The Sun Rockts can play also in a close to Soul style, as they show in the beautiful "I Want To Forget", in which even the organ (that I usually don't like at all) is absolutely OK, and that at some parts reminds me of Percy Sledge in "When A Man Loves A Woman". What a voice that of Diego Cruz!

So this is a CD with a nice combination of styles, always with Rockin' Blues as starting point, and a good mix of own compositions and versions. Among the own penned songs my favourites are "Western Moon", the menacing feel of "Shake Like A Snake" and the great "Pick Up The Phone". Regarding the covers, four among the dozen songs included, my favourites are the Leiber and Stoller signed classic "Three Cool Cats" and, above all, "You Can't Make Me Doubt My Babe", a great version one of my favourite songs in Rockin' Blues.

Fantastic job by Diego Cruz (voice and acoustic guitar), Pepe Lee (double-bass), Daniel Alvarez (electric guitar) and the rest of artists taking part. A record that is worth buying, for sure.
